Patterson is a city having a population of about 150,000 in the Passaic County of the state of New Jersey. It has the distinction of being New Jersey's third largest city and also popularly known as the "Silk City". The city was originally settled in the form of a township in the year 1831 and was officially incorporated in the year 1861 as a city. At the local level the city is governed by a Faulkner Act Plan-D Mayor Council. The city is well connected to all major towns and cities of New Jersey. Transport via rail inside the city is provided by the New Jersey Transit Main Line commuter rail. Apart from this the city can be accessed by road via the Interstate Route 80, State Routes 4, 19 and 20. There are several different areas of interest in the city. There is the Great Falls Historic District where one can go to see the great falls of the Passaic River. Then there is Downtown Paterson which is basically the shopping center of the city. One also has the option to visit the numerous parks located inside the city such as the People's Park, Wrigley Park, etc.
